Well, you know you have a limit of how much magical energy you can draw on each day.

You can restore some of it with mana potions, but they become less and less effective the more you use in a day.

That's part of our bodies' natural defenses. The more magick you use in a day, the more it taxes your body. You have to let it restore naturally.

Mana draughts are crafted by master alchemists from their own magick. As such, draughts can be used as though you were using your own magick reserves.

You bypass the personal limit by using external sources, basically. But they're much harder to make, and as such, much more rare and expensive.

If it's a small number of casters, needing to use a high level spell, they're going to need to draw on magick from outside their personal sources.

Since light magick can only be used on your own energy, they'd either hit the limit with potions, or use draughts for as much as they need.
