I've always had a theory The Iahn also was one of the dragoons!!

There's a 13th dragoon that takes the role whenever needed. But the Iahn always also is the Dragoon of Time.

It's the only way the Demis Watch would work. Normal Del can't activate it. None of the other dragoons can even activate it. Not from a taboo or anything, but because they physically cannot.

So what's the advantage of having the double role?

If The Iahn needs to go in an official capacity somewhere, but not as The Iahn, they can. But they rarely do. Usually it's just for Iahns around my age and a little older.

If we needed to, at least. But I prefer being Sky, still.

When The Iahn dies, their spirit is reincarnated in the next drago child born in Ion. This is why Ion keeps such detailed birth records.

About a week later, the parents of the child are approached by the Religious Caste, and the child is injected with the Blood of the Prophet. If they survive, it's the reincarnation of the Iahn.

The blood changes your hair and eye colors, to match Lun's. I'm told my natural hair and eye color are light grey, at least according to my parents.

Are you able to keep in contact with them?

Not much. I know I have an older brother and a younger sister. My family is labor caste. But my life is entirely here in the Religious Caste.

It's... frowned on that I interact with them much, but I am entitled to at least talking to them.
